This Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM) was funded by M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust ($342,000) in 1988. The OSU Research Office contributed with $65,000. It was installed during 1989-1990 and it is currently still in service. It is capable of conducting chemical composition analysis through an X-Ray EDS system. The maximum accelerating voltage is 120kV. Point resolution is less than 0.36 nm, line resolution is 0.2 nm. According to the record, it already accumulated over 8,500 beam hours. Over 11,000 photos have been taken during this period.
